Client Testimonials

lakelandWhat Gary Marshall, Director of Operations at Lakeland Limited
had to say about Key Performance Improvement.

‘At Lakeland we are specialists in creative kitchenware and innovative home products and reach our customers through mail order, the web and our national network of 34 retail stores. Our product is supplied from our 150,000 sq. ft. in-house Distribution Centre in Kendal where one of the key challenges is to maintain the very high service standards as the business continues to grow. Part of that challenge required Lakeland to review its working practices and after a careful selection process I appointed Key Performance to provide industrial engineering consultancy support. The brief was simply to work with the Lakeland team to identify the key areas for operational improvement and to develop a performance management system.

I was delighted with the outcome – after just a few weeks of work the brief was delivered in full and the way the consultants integrated with the whole of the Lakeland team and kept everyone informed was exceptional. The management team now have and are motivated to deliver a number of clearly defined initiatives that will drive operational improvement for Lakeland. They also have a performance management system that will allow them to continue to identify future potential.

I am always happy to support a company that delivers real value to my operations and I fully expect the relationship we have with Key Performance to develop into a long term partnership.’

Recent Assignments

Labour management (1)
Key performance consultants have worked on a number of LM applications over the last ten years including, system specification, selection, configuration and data base development. We have devised change management programmes and coached teams in the use of LM to improve performance. We have consistently delivered productivity improvements of between 15% and 30%.

Labour management (2)
The client, a major third party distribution company, was under pressure to make a step change in productivity and turned to Key Performance to revive a moribund labour management system. We constructed and delivered a re measurement programme and re configured the LM system to reflect changes in layout and process. We devised a programme of target setting and backed this up with team coaching and individual development plans for supervisors. The result was a 30% improvement in productivity, far higher than anticipated.

Distribution network review (1)
The client, a major non food retailer had enjoyed considerable growth in sales over the last ten years and had addressed this by steadily extending their RDC network. This strategy changed with the opening of a national distribution centre for slow moving and imported products. Key Performance was asked to model the impact of projected future growth on the network and develop a strategy for the regional distribution centres. A review and benchmarking of all RDC processes was included. Spare capacity in the network was identified and measured, pointing the way to managing growth while postponing a proposed multi million pound network expansion. Many opportunities for productivity and service improvements were identified.

Distribution network review (2)
The client, a government department, wanted to review its logistics operation and identify options for handling future growth. Key Performance modelled the entire distribution network and also prepared design options for a new type distribution centre. The outcome was a detailed document giving costed and measured options on which to base future strategy

Improving warehouse processes
The client, a major third party distribution company, wanted to achieve much higher service levels to its customer, a high street retailer. Key Performance proposed and helped implement changes in management structure and in processes that dramatically reduced stock outs and short deliveries. We produced streamlined processes for handling allocations and new product set ups. We coached team members in new ways of working to achieve more effective communication so that improvements were sustained over the long term.

Warehouse management system specification (1)
An edge of town retailer needed to replace an out of date WMS but had very limited knowledge of the market place. Key Performance drew up a full Invitation To Tender including a full system specification and a review of the available WMS providers. We were able to work with the client through a long list, down to a short list and on to selection of the new system.

Warehouse management system specification (2)
The client a worldwide distributor of media, was looking for a new warehouse management system for its UK operation. Key Performance mapped all warehouse processes and slotted them into the final Invitation to Tender document.
